Getting Ready for My Art Show - WIP Wednesday April 27th, 2016

-
Creating is my passion, my sanity, my sense of being "up to something", my way of contributing a little bit. I always have a few projects going, many left to the side for months or even years before I pick up the best and carry on. Here's some of what I'm working on this week:

While I've known for a few months that I'm going to have an art show at the local co-op in June, I'm just starting to get my act together.

I've cobbled together an artist bio:

With marvelous artists all throughout her family, Myrrh grew up surrounded by art. With little formal training, she learned from the crafting, creating, and fine art all around. From watercolor painting with her paternal grandmother, oil painting on vacations with her mother and aunt, to finishing geometry assignments quickly so that she would have extra time to color them in, Myrrh has always had an artistic nature. After taking a break to start her family, Myrrh picked up her brushes again and has been deeply exploring watercolor painting ever since.

I've added the bio to the new painterly page here at myrrhmade.

I bought twelve frames, mats, and backing paper. I learned about different types of matting hinges, tried my hand at a few pass through S hinges, and ultimately framed two out of the twelve completed pieces ready for the show.

I'm still working on the stones and hosta paintings I showed here a couple weeks ago

And hoping to finish a couple more smaller paintings in the next month.

Now I have to come up with a "title" for the show ("bunch of darned paintings" was vetoed), descriptions/titles for the paintings themselves, and get the signed contract in.

Phew!

One of these days I'll feel like a REAL artist, maybe. Or, like most of us, feel less confident than we think others look.

There will be an artist reception coordinated with Northampton Arts Night Out, June 10th from 5–7 pm and I'll be there. If anyone is going to be in the area in June and want a private tour of the show let me know!

What are you working on? What are you excited about attempting? What are you proud to be working on? Take a picture or two and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link in the comments.

    1. as I've done a grand total of six pass through hinges, I'm not sure I'm an expert. I'm pretty curious about it all though. And thanks for the tip on linen hinging tape!

I'm kind of looking forward to working on the others and figuring out the little tricks.
