Notes from the Atelier - 9/9/2020

It's been a couple years since I regularly posted my Work In Progress Wednesday (WIP) posts. I miss them.

So here's another of my fancy fresh start on those posts.

September 9th, 2020 Notes from the Atelier:

Before getting started on my carving my capstone project, I wanted to do a couple of test pieces working with the cherry wood. My previous pieces were done on poplar which is a softer and grainier wood.

I've always loved things made from cherry wood and it turns out I also prefer it for carving.

I've also been preserving the harvest. I purchased 20lbs of heirloom tomato seconds and 20lbs of wholesale sweet peppers from Atlas Farm in South Deerfield. We've got home-canned roasted pepper and tomato sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, frozen peppers, and plans. I was also able to harvest enough elderberries from the bushes I planted a few years ago to make some medicine - elderberry tonic. Most elderberry products I've purchased have cinnamon and cloves which don't agree with me.

I also got the chance to do some photography in one of the places that makes my soul sing. This photo is unedited.

Soon after my last atelier post, I found the time to do some more fun little carving. My school semester has started in earnest so for the time being, many of these projects will fall to the wayside. I look forward to chilly winter days around the fire putting knife to homegrown maple.

What are you working on these days?

    1. Dearest Celia,
Thank you! I've been really enjoying working with woodcarving. I'm considering printing some note cards, like I pondered doing with the snails. :)
      Sending love!
