May Satur-DIY - Molded Block Crayons

-

Crayons break. Crayons wear down, and there are stubs and pieces of broken crayons left.

One use for them is to melt them down and make your own block crayons.

Block crayons are easier for small hands to hold, last longer, and are much harder to break.

1.) Put broken crayons into a silicone mold. For deeper crayons it's fine for some of the pieces to stick above the tray.

2.) Bake for 15 minutes at 210f - longer for bigger molds. These stars are about an inch from point to point.

3.) Let cool completely, then pop out of the mold.

These had a ridge of colorless wax rise up at the edges, so I used a knife and carefully carved it off. We then smoothed them out by rubbing the whole side on a large piece of paper.

I hadn't finished carving the first before someone came along to help. She immediately requested a special box for them, because crayons have boxes right?
