February 11th - What's Great About Where You Are? - Myrrhmade Love Where You Are Challenge Day 11!

February 10th - Welcome to day 10 of the Myrrhmade Love Where You Are Challenge!

Come on in and join us!

Day 10: What's great about where you are?

It's easy to get stuck on the ways we wish things were different. Similar to being grateful for what you have, and thinking about how far you've come I find it encouraging to think about what's great about where you are.

Daily Challenge: Take a good look at where you are and find what's great about it.

Do you live within an easy distance of your work (when you do commute)?

Do you have lovely neighbors?

Do you live in a safe area?

Do you live with people whose company you cherish?

Does your job or your home make it easier to do other things that matter to you?

Be careful what you look for... or in this case, be intentional about what you look for.

Daily Mindset Mantra:  There's good to be found.

If you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. If you're hunting for the good stuff, you'll find it.

While there will still be plenty of things you'll change when the time is right, there's a lot of good in all of our lives right now.

Bonus task: Write it down.

It's easy to do exercises in our heads and then hardly notice when our brains move on to our next task.

Writing things down adds a layer of permanence as well as the ability to revisit that list later. (I know that's a bit of a DER, but I also know that even though we know that, we don't always do anything about it.)

Make a list of what's wonderful about your current situation. Even if you only come up with seven or eight things, these are your "why" for being where you are. If your "why" is big enough, then it's much simpler to Love Where You Are.

Focusing on the good stuff helps to bolster ourselves to handle what comes our way.

My experience:

I've often fallen into the mental trap of cataloguing what I don't like about where I am and find myself revisiting these when I'm feeling low and stressed. And as our brains are always listening, these thoughts don't make anything easier!

We have amazing neighbors. While we don't interact that much under the current world conditions, I feel rich in neighbors.

We have a private spot, near to towns and people we love.

We have more than enough space for our little family and enough outdoor space for gardens, fruit trees, and a bit of wild.

We have access to clean water, healthy food, and regularly get to see wild animals such as deer, wild rabbits, red-tailed hawks, and a myriad of wild birds at our birdfeeders. From the safety of our home we've also seen bears, foxes, opossums, racoons, a fischer, and of course the usual bevvy of squirrels and chipmunks.

The list goes on and on.

Three deer in the adjacent lot- we've seen as many as eleven at a time.

What is great about where you are?

Make sure to check back here tomorrow for the next challenge, the next tips, and the next dose of the Myrrhmade  Love Where You Are Challenge.
