Creating is my passion, my sanity, my sense of being "up to something", my way of contributing a little bit. I always have a few projects going, many left to the side for months or even years before I pick up the best and carry on. Here's some of what I'm working on this week:
Some of the excitement of presents comes from the surprise and anticipation. As someone who made presents for people from my very first ability to make things, much of my joy is finding the spare moments and keeping the secret. When one has toddlers as company most every moment, especially particularly inquisitive ones, one has to be pretty sly.
For those word nerds like me, the word "sly" comes from Old Norse sloegr meaning "skillful, dextrous, cunning, crafty" source
Anyone who has looked at my socks in the past eight or ten years may have noticed my fondness for Smartwool. The colors, patterns, feel, washability etc. Eventually the heels wear through, and it's so very hard to throw away the rest. Above is a skirt (in progress) and a sweater made from repurposed worn through socks passed along by my step-mother. This outfit, and the hat I hope to make by Friday (eep!) will be waiting under the tree for dear C and her Willow.
There are other things in progress, but as I know some of the recipients read these posts, I won't spoil the surprise. Instead I'll show you what our bulbs are working on - blooms! We've been graced by four sets of narcissus (paperwhite) blossoms so far and have an amaryllis and another narcissus on the way. The fragrance and the reminder of spring is so welcome in the darkest days.
Now that we've turned the corner of the solstice the days begin to lengthen, and I feel a little more light and hope each day.
What are you working on? What are you excited about attempting? What are you proud to be working on? Take a picture or two and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link in the comments.
